Petroleum refining
In Hungary, the sub-sector Petroleum refining (part of Energy) was responsible for 1.52 Mt CO₂eq of emissions in the year 2021, which is 2.4% of total emissions in that year. Compared to 1990 (2.38 Mt CO₂eq), emissions have decreased by 36.2%. Under existing measures, emissions are projected to reach 0.92 Mt CO₂eq by 2050.
What is part of this sector? Emissions from the refining of crude oil by oil refineries. Emissions arise from the combustion of fuels, flaring and thermal cracking.
This sub-sector accounts for 11.4% of Energy emissions in Hungary.
