In Italy, the sub-sector Solid waste disposal (part of Waste) was responsible for 15.68 Mt CO₂eq of emissions in the year 2021, which is 3.8% of total emissions in that year. Compared to 1990 (13.67 Mt CO₂eq), emissions have increased by 14.7%. Under existing measures, emissions are projected to reach 4.59 Mt CO₂eq by 2050.
