Enteric fermentation

In Ireland, the sub-sector Enteric fermentation (part of Agriculture) was responsible for 13.34 Mt CO₂eq of emissions in the year 2021, which is 22.2% of total emissions in that year. Compared to 1990 (12.48 Mt CO₂eq), emissions have increased by 6.9%. Under existing measures, emissions are projected to reach 13.57 Mt CO₂eq by 2050.

What is part of this sector? Emissions produced during digestive processes (burping & flatulence) of farm animals such as cows, pigs, goats, poultry, sheep, horses and deer.

This sub-sector accounts for 60.8% of Agriculture emissions in Ireland.
