In Belgium, the sector Waste was responsible for 1.27 Mt CO₂eq of emissions in the year 2021, which is 1.2% of total emissions in that year. Compared to 1990 (4.8 Mt CO₂eq), emissions have decreased by 73.7%. Under existing measures, emissions from this sector are projected to reach 0.7 Mt CO₂eq by 2050.
